Wish You Were Here is an ongoing collaborative place exchange project. Participants write a postcard describing “a place that feels significant” to them (loosely) in the Bay Area. On the front of the card, each person writes the name or location to direct me to their chosen place. On the back, they are asked to “please tell me about it" in as much detail as they would like to provide.
Using only the front of the card, I navigate to that place. Upon arrival, I then flips the card over and read what that person wrote about their place. In response, I write a new postcard back to that person onsite, often performing an action in the landscape. I then give or send the newly created postcard to the participant.
